The incubation programme is the next step following the pre-incubation programme and is designed for student teams that have completed the initial stage of idea development and are ready to move on to the practical implementation of solutions. The programme lasts for six months. It is also open to teams that are already working on innovative ideas based on an existing proof of concept.

Programme content:

Within the incubation programme, participants are provided with access to expert and mentor consultations, as well as practical training. The programme supports teams in refining their products or services, developing sustainable business models, and preparing for market entry. Its aim is to help emerging entrepreneurs and innovators transition from the idea development phase to the practical implementation of solutions, fostering the growth and scalability of products or services.

Objectives:

  • To provide in-depth and structured support to teams for the continued development of innovations.

  • To strengthen team competencies and promote networking with industry experts and investors.

  • To develop funding attraction strategies for sustainable growth and the commercialisation of innovations.

Benefits for students:

  • Funding – Access to funding for the implementation of ideas, covering expert fees, materials and service costs, as well as mobility expenses.

  • Scholarships – The opportunity to receive a monthly scholarship and one-off scholarships for top placements at Demo Day.

  • International experience – The opportunity to attend the largest ecosystem event in Estonia, “Latitude59”, and visit the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) in Switzerland.

  • Networking and mentoring – Access to a broad network of industry experts, mentors, investors, and entrepreneurs to build collaborations and gain valuable insights.

  • Infrastructure and resources – Access to laboratories, equipment, and other resources for prototype development and testing.

The applicant must be a student team consisting of 2–5 members, with at least one member enrolled in a Bachelor’s, professional, Master’s, Doctoral, or residency study programme at a Latvian or international higher education institution.

Following the selection of innovation proposals, students are provided with training, expert consultations, and mentoring. Each team is assigned a supervisor whose role is to ensure the structured progression of the work and to oversee the development of the innovation and prototype.

The programme is organized by the University of Latvia Innovation and Acceleration Center within the ERDF co-funded project No. 1.1.1.7/1/25/A/005 “Innovation Grants for Students of the University of Latvia.”
